Therapist – B’saanibamaadsiwin Counselling and Treatment

Purpose of the Position:
The B’saanibamaadsiwin Therapist/Counsellor plays an essential role in providing direct clinical services to individuals and their families, offering high-quality assessment and therapy that align with best practice standards. The focus of service will be supporting Indigenous Community Members experiencing serious mental illness within the Parry Sound and Muskoka area. This role involves collaboration with other internal and external service providers to address community member needs effectively and includes consultation and education initiatives. The ideal candidate will have experience facilitating group sessions both in-person and virtually, using a culturally sensitive approach.
The successful applicant will benefit from a highly flexible and autonomous schedule, allowing them to design their work hours with a client-centered approach to scheduling sessions. This role supports a hybrid model, accommodating both virtual and in-person sessions based on client preferences. In-person sessions may be held at the Parry Sound or Muskoka offices, with the number of working hours ranging from 1 to 21 hours per week

Education and Qualifications:
· Experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations is a strong asset.
· Knowledge of traditional and non-traditional healing and wellness practices, and the ability to collaborate with elders, healers, and other Indigenous knowledge holders.
· Cultural competence in incorporating Indigenous practices within a therapeutic relationship is highly valued.
· Knowledge of the historical and current contexts affecting the health of Indigenous peoples in Ontario, including colonization, residential schools, treaties, and land claims.
· Minimum of one year of experience preferred in providing psychotherapy to individuals with mental illness, substance use challenges, and complex clinical presentations.
· Demonstrated experience, knowledge, and ability to practice the act of psychotherapy
· Proven experience in facilitating individual, group, and walk-in therapy sessions
· Ability to work autonomously as well as cooperatively within a team environment in a rural setting
· Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, the Internet, and data management software
A willingness to serve clients within the communities of the District of Muskoka and Parry Sound
A valid Ontario G or G2 driver’s license, a safe and reliable means of transportation, and appropriate insurance for work purposes on your vehicle with a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability coverage.
· Bilingual in French/English language considered an asset
· Indigenous Cultural Awareness and Education is a requirement
Salary scale: $35.90 to $44.26 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience
Benefits include: optional enrolment in a Registered Retirement plan with HOOPP where contributions start on date of hire.
